Google - Keyword Weight & Density Myth. Cheating at SEO and Internet Marketing

Here's another Cyber myth; "the more times a keyword appears on your page, the higher your Google PageRank."

This isn't new, it is years old but like the proverbial bad penny, it keeps coming back. Google's algorithm extends further than looking at the keyword weight and density. Search engine forums suggest varying percentages between 3% and 5% up to a staggering 20%, this means repeating the same keyword twenty times in every one hundred.

I often wonder about these Google Experts that dwell in webmaster chat rooms dishing out words of wisdom.

Let's get back to marketing and promoting websites, and search engine optimisation (SEO ) because we are now in danger of looking at ways to manipulate Google and an area we don't want to venture.

Be ethical and comply - it pays dividends. Look at it another way, if you have one hundred words and you repeat one of those twenty times, that leaves eighty, if you have another important keyword and repeat that twenty times, you have only sixty words left. Keep going, think of your third most popular keyword and repeat it twenty times ... come on!!

You might reach a high ranking in Google, if it really worked, but when a client actually looked at your website, it would gain no value whatsoever, and your own text would be gobbledygook.

So what is the point of gaining high positions in Google if your site suits Google's algorithm but makes no sense to your clients, think about your real objectives.

High rank but no customers! Give Google credit, it examines every aspect of your page copy and that of the pages linking to it, then it will determine if it matches the search.

Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears in the web page. But your keywords shouldn't be over used, although should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places.

If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site.
Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page.

Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage (not including HMTL code used for writing the web page), and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content.

The keyword density on that page is arrived at by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05. Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The accepted standard for a keyword density seems to vary from one chat room to another. Let's say today the percentage is between 3% and 5%.

Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service.

The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%, or whatever percentage is dictated at the time.
